Example of reinforcement strategies finished

Led by our project partner, the Hunnarshala Foundation, the example of repair and reinforcement strategies was finished. These included repairing damaged stone masonry walls and adding elements to increase the buildings’ overall structural resistance, such as wooden diagonals in the roof structure and metallic supports connecting the corners of the walls using external frames and internal corner reinforcements with a metallic mesh. This mesh goes up internally up to an added concrete upper beam that connects the existing walls and the reinforcements added.

This chabutra (bird-feeder) is an important building for the whole community of Bela, in Gujarat, India. One future aim is that some of these reinforcement strategies could be replicated in other partially damaged buildings. Towards that aim, the construction process included events to share it with the local inhabitants.
